"A pure delight." ––BookPage (starred review)
"Charming, escapist fun." ––Katharine McGee, New York Times bestselling author of American Royals
Matrimony meets mayhem in Katy Birchall's The Secret Bridesmaid, a modern British romcom about a young woman charged with pulling off the biggest aristocratic wedding of the year––and the misadventures that ensue.
Sophie Breeze is a brilliant bridesmaid. So brilliant, in fact, that she's made it her full-time job.
As a professional bridesmaid, Sophie is hired by London brides to be their right-hand woman, posing as a friend but working behind the scenes to help plan the perfect wedding and ensure their big day goes off without a hitch. When she's hired by Lady Victoria Swann––a former model and "It Girl" of 1970's London; now the Marchioness of Meade––for the society wedding of the year, it should be a chance for Sophie to prove just how talented she is.
Of course, it's not ideal that the bride, Lady Victoria's daughter, Cordelia, is an absolute diva and determined to make Sophie's life a nightmare. It's also a bit inconvenient that Sophie finds herself drawn to Cordelia's posh older brother, who is absolutely off limits. But when a rival society wedding is announced for the very same day, things start to get...well, complicated.
Can Sophie pull off the biggest challenge of her career––execute a high-profile gala for four hundred and fifty guests in record time, win over a reluctant bride, and catch the eye of handsome Lord Swann––all while keeping her true identity a secret, and her dignity intact?
Heartwarming and hilarious, Katy Birchall's The Secret Bridesmaid celebrates the joys (and foibles) of weddings, the nuances of female friendship, and the redeeming power of love in its many unexpected forms.

YA author Birchall (the Morgan Charmley series) makes her adult debut with a unique, hilarious spin on wedding mayhem. As a professional bridesmaid, Sophie Breeze is part wedding planner, part emotional support expert, and she’s dealt with everything from posh port-a-potty crises to having to dress up as Chewbacca in a Star Wars–themed wedding. When she’s hired by the Marchioness of Meade to pretend to be a friend and bridesmaid to her socialite daughter, Lady Cordelia Swann, Sophie jumps at the chance, knowing that the aristocratic wedding will put her business on the map. But Lady Cordelia doesn’t want Sophie’s help and goes to great lengths to get Sophie to quit. Their contentious relationship takes a turn when Cordelia’s former best friend chooses to have her society wedding on the same date as Cordelia’s. Now it’s a competition, and Cordelia’s all in. Suddenly, Sophie must scramble to create the perfect wedding—which includes committing designer espionage—all while fighting her growing attraction to Cordelia’s brother, Tom, who doesn’t know that she’s not really a friend of his sister’s but hired help. Birchall pays just as much attention to the complex nuances of female friendship as to the healing power of love, resulting in an entertaining romp. This is sure to please. Agent: Lauren Gardner, Bell Lomax Moreton Agency.

Dressing up like Chewbacca for a Star Wars wedding or dyeing her hair to match the rest of the bridal party is par for the course for Sophie Breeze; it makes her the perfect bridesmaid in every situation and the perfect undercover plant at the weddings of her clients. Problem solving and dealing with all of the minutiae of weddings is Sophies forte and she's turned it into her perfect job--that is, until she meets her biggest challenge ever: Lady Cordelia Swann. The stubborn bride-to-be is dead set against Sophie's help and turns every item on the wedding to-do list into an impossible and hilarious hurdle. Reunite Oasis and borrow the crown jewels? That should be easy. The one bright spot in the farce is the bride's older brother, who appreciates Sophie's quirky sense of humor and seemingly unending devotion to his difficult sister. But when chaos ensues and the upcoming wedding seems to be imploding from within, Sophie finds both her job and her heart on the line, for a bride who has truly put her through her paces. VERDICT Fans of Bridget Jones's Diary or Four Weddings and a Funeral will love this quirky, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy with heart.--Jenna Harmison, Champaign Cty. Lib., OH
